Fido…Rex…even Spot. What do they have in common besides being popular dog names? They are short. One or two syllable names are ideal when calling your dog, especially when it needs to be done quickly for safety.
Longer names or names that rhyme with common commands such as KIT, (sounds like sit) can be confusing and difficult to understand. Also, try not to choose a name that sounds like another pet or family member in the house. Lastly, consider choosing a name that won’t be too embarrassing, when at a crowded dog park - sorry Droolius Caesar.
